“I paint to reflect a feeling I am connected with rather than painting about a particular thing. For me, the process is mystical and unites me with a deeply remembered ancient time and place.
Each painting begins with a focus on how the oil, gesso, acrylic and graphite will operate together on the canvas. Ever inspired by the later work of Julius Bissier, I lay down subsequent layers more fluidly. Once the composition has emerged, I can see beyond the painted elements and feel the grace and profundity in the texture, line work and negative spaces. This reaction and attachment to the work is ultimately what I’m seeking for my viewers - for each person to experience their own deep connection with the work.”
