In this Collection: the Stories and Spaces Between Friendship and Love
This new collection includes some of my favorite works of the summer season, each one carrying a story I’m eager to share. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be telling those stories here in the journal and over on Instagram (@chrisbrandell if you’d like to follow along).
At its heart, this body of work explores the rich and complicated territory of platonic love. That deep, sustaining bond between two people, and the questions that arise when it brushes against the possibility of romance.
Friendship brings immeasurable gifts: loyalty, safety, ease, and a kind of quiet joy that shapes who we are. Yet the pull of romance is undeniably human, and often irresistible. Can those two states exist within the same relationship, between the same two people? My gut is that sometimes, yes. But the tension between them - the hesitation, the yearning, the acceptance - is where the poetry of human connection lives.
This collection is my way of holding space for that in-between, that tender threshold where friendship and love meet.
